Adolphus was caputured at Gettysburg. He died Sept. 3, 1863 of typhoid at Fort Delaware while still a POW.

Pleasant was my great grand dad. He joined up in Davie County NC in probably 1861 and fought until the end of the war. He was wounded at Petersburg near the end of hostilities.

Martin B. FOGLEMAN was born 1814 in North Carolina (Guilford Co.), and died before 1880 in North Carolina (Coble Twp, Alamance Co.). He is buried in Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church Cemetery. He was the son of Peter M. FOGLEMAN, Jr. and Hannah BOGGS. He served in the Confederate Army with the 7th Regiment, North Carolina Senior Reservists.

My Grandfather was not in the actual battle lines of the war; he was required to fulfill his obligation to the Confederacy by working in the Silver Hill Mine in Davidson County, NC (called detached service). The mine extracted lead to support the Confederate Army and provide lead and silver for ammunition. The Civil War created an urgent need for lead to supply Southern troops. The Confederate government operated the Silver Hill Mine (formerly was the Washington Mining Co.) to provide an alternate source of lead in case the mines at Austinville, Virginia should fall into Northern hands. Lead concentrates with high silver values were shipped from Silver Hill to the newly constructed Confederate smelter in Petersburg, Virginia.

Alfred Wilson Wiseman was born in Davidson County NC August 10,
1934. He was the son of William Washington and Nancy Owen Wiseman. William was a well known statesman at the time. Alfred was the third great grandson of Thomas Wiseman. That Thomas was the father of Avery County's William Edward Wisemans father, my connection. Alfred had attended medical school in New York in 1852. April 17, 1862 he was 27 years old when he joined the CSA Army at Davie County NC. His family was living there at the time. He was assigned to Company A, 7th Regiment NC State Troops as Assistant Surgeon. His brother James Washington Wiseman was assistant Surgeon with the NC 42nd Regiment. In September of 1862 Alfred's unit was at a place near Sharpsburg Maryland, called Antietam. Over 20 thousand men were killed there that day, many wounded that would die later and over a thousand confederates were missing or taken prisoner. Alfred was taken prisoner. In 1863 Alfred resigned due to health problems. Returned to Davie county where he and wife Sarah (Sallie) raised a family. He worked as a MD. He died May 13, 1907 at Jerusalem, Davie County.

William was born 10 Oct 1841 in Cabarrus Co. NC he has 26 cards in his archival file. Enlisted in his home county 25 June 1861 by R.S. Young. IN Dec 1861 he is sick in the hospital at Shepardville. In Nov 1862 he is detailed as the Brigade Butcher. His Regiment was organized near Graham, NC at Camp Mason in Alamance County. He served in Branch's Brigade, A.P. Hill's Division, Longstreet's Corps. A muster roll dated 27 April near Jamestown, NC. states they were paroled at Greensboro the same day. His regiment fought at many battles including Gettysburg. He died 10 Dec 1911 at Concord, Cabarrus CO. NC and is buried in the Oakwood Cem. in that town. He was the father-in-law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed. May God rest his soul.

He enlisted on May 21, 1861 and was mustered into service on June 19, 1861 and assigned to Company E, 2d Regiment, North Carolina Troops.He was severely wounded in his left leg at the Battle of New Bern, NC. His left leg was amputated below the knee as a result of that wound. The operation was performed by a Yankee surgeon who, apparently, had been captured. I look forward to hearing from other ancestors of the NC 7th. Thank you.

Lt. James William Emack died at the age of 25 on May 3, 1863 in the battle of Chancellorville, VA in Spotsylvania County. The battle of Chancellorville was a major battle in the American Civil War. James enlisted into the Confederate service March 7,1863.

Grandson to the Hon. James Turner and Sarah Calder Turner. (Mr. Turner was a US Congressman and member of State Senate of MD). Brother to Captain (Major upon retirment from service) George Malcolm Emack, 1st Calvary of MD Company B. Brother to Elbert Grandison II. Eudora Virgina, John Duke, Dr. Alexander Franklin 'Frank' Dulin, Charles Calder, Charles Grandison, Edward Grandeville.
James suffered a fatal grapeshot to the left shoulder and shot in the ankle. James is buried in St. Johns Episcopal (Zion Parish) Cemetry in Prince George's County MD next to his loving parents and surrounded by other family members.

My Grandfather was talking of his grandfather (Alexander) and once told me that he came down with chicken pox. He was quaranteened with other sick soldiers in an open field & they were told not to cross a road that surrounded the field. Food wasn't always brought on a regular basis & he mentioned to my Grandfather that he caught rats to eat. Paroled at either Bentonville in Apr of 1865 or Salisbury... not sure which.

Assigned to Genreal's Branch, law's & lane's Brigade. He was wounded on the first day of the battle of the Wilderness 5 -7 May 1864 and was home on wounded furlough. The CMR for Sept-Oct shows him back in his company. Engaged in the battles of Pegram's Farm 2 Oct 1864 & Hatcher's Run on 5 Feb 1865. He was the father in law of my 3rd cousin 4 x removed. He is buried at the Rocky Ridge UMC Cem. Concord, NC

He died 15 Jan. 1918 in Coddle Creek, Iredell Co. NC

Joseph Litten Baker mustered August 1861, Alexander County, on the rolls until 1863. He was working as a nurse in 1862 at Goldsboro Hospital and died in fall of 1863 at the hospital of disease. I have not been able to locate his grave. His widow. T.M.A. Baker (Blakenship) applied for and received a pension in 1880. His father was Levi Baker and mother Jane Bentley. His brother, Henry S. Baker also served and was killed at Gettysburg.

Frances Wilson Query was my greatgreat grandfather. He enlisted as a Private at age 37 on July 4th, 1861. He was promoted to Full Corporal August 12, 1862 and then promoted to Full Corporal May 30, 1863. He was killed at Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA.

Edward Graham Haywood was a Wake County attorney before being appointed to serve as Lt Col of the 7th Regiment. He was 30 years old. His first assignment was with Company S. On Jun 27, 1862, Haywood was promoted to Colonel, and let the Regiment through The Seven Days Campaign and was wounded at Second Manasas and Chancellorsville. Haywood resigned due to his blindness caused by his wounds on Jul 22, 1864. Source: Manarin and Jordan, North Carolina Troops, 4:405. I'm looking for a photo of him.
